Senior Safety Coordinator
As a Senior Safety Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest level of safety standards and practices across our construction projects. You will lead a project team and collaborate closely with project staff, and subcontractor representatives, to develop and implement effective safety programs and protocols. Your expertise in safety regulations, incident investigation, training, and risk management will be instrumental in maintaining a safe and secure work environment to develop a positive safety culture.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee a project, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in their daily activities.
- Attend initial meetings with project staff and subcontractor representatives to define their roles within the project regarding safety. Conduct and document pre-planning safety meetings with subcontractor safety representatives and foremen to establish Beck’s Zero Accident Plan. Establish and conduct regular (weekly) safety meetings with subcontractor representatives to promote ongoing safety awareness and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations applicable to the construction industry.
- Help enforce Beck’s Drug and Alcohol Policy, including handling site drug testing.
- Implement and maintain comprehensive safety programs across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with company standards and best practices. Conduct thorough investigations and analysis of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and contributing factors. Generate detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project staff and subcontractors to conduct formal weekly jobsite inspections, documenting safety violations, and implementing corrective measures.
- Deliver effective safety training sessions to employees at all levels, promoting a proactive safety culture.
- Develop and deliver safety orientation programs for new employees and trade partners to ensure a comprehensive understanding of safety protocols. Assist in reviewing subcontractor safety training documentation, verifying compliance with company standards, and providing guidance as needed.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date safety documentation, including incident reports, inspection records, and training records.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improving safety performance and implementing preventive measures.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills in construction safety.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain and manage comprehensive safety documentation
- Create and manage monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) safety reports to be shared with project teams, leadership, and owners. These reports will highlight key safety observations, total man hours worked, and identify high-risk activities, ensuring that safety performance is tracked and communicated effectively.
- Participate in the project's pull planning sessions to gain an understanding of the project schedule and identify critical work scopes that may require additional oversight, such as crane lifts, confined space entries, electrical shutdowns, and other high-risk activities.
- Engagement with project leadership to create and manage a safety recognition program aimed at fostering a positive project culture and enhancing overall morale by promoting a strong commitment to safety.
- Collaboration with project teams to develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) that outlines emergency procedures, muster points, team assignments, and ensures clear communication with emergency responders, the workforce, and corporate leadership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction safety experience, with a demonstrated progression in responsibility and leadership.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926) for construction safety. OSHA 500
- SSH (Specialist in Safety and Health) preferred
- CSHO (Certified Safety & Health Official) preferred
- CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) preferred
- College degree in a related field is desired, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in using construction technologies and software, such as Excel, Synchro, Procore, Bluebeam, CMiC, and Revit, is a plus.
